Caragh Celtic 2
Naas AFC 6
Caragh Celtic under 9’s visited Naas this morning for their second match of the league.
The first quarter started out very evenly with both teams having chances and looking like it was going to be a tight contest, but just as the quarter was drawing to a close Caragh gave possession away easily in front of their own goal and were punished on both occasions to go in 2-0 down.
The second quarter saw Caragh come back in to the game following a great run and shot from Ross Ward to make it 2-1. The comeback was short-lived though and Naas quickly restored their two goal lead to go in at half time 3-1 up.
The game flowed from end to end in the second half, but the Naas boys were far more clinical in front of goals and took nearly every chance that came their way to lead 4-1 going in to the final quarter.
Naas continued to punish Caragh and stretched their lead further in the final quarter to 6-1. The Caragh boys never gave up though and kept looking to get back into the game right to the end and were finally rewarded when Daire Gilmartin scored a great individual goal to make the score 6-2 at the finish. Special mention must go to Evan Gilmartin who went between the posts for the final quarter and pulled off a string of fantastic saves.
Caragh won’t come up against many stronger teams this year, and will surely push this Naas team closer when they next meet – well done boys for working so hard right to the final whistle.
