U9 Premier Vs Kilcullen AFC

Caragh Celtic 8
Kilcullen AFC 3

Caragh finally got their 2014 campaign underway with an impressive victory over Kilcullen in Eire Og.

With a couple of the lads away for the weekend we just had 7 players – but all were delighted to get a full game under their belts.

Mikey Coffey was on fire in the middle of midfield from the start not giving the Kilcullen boys an inch. The opening goal came from a through ball from Mikey to Daniel Hamill – Daniel made no mistake from close range. Mikey shortly after doubled our advantage when he finished with a smashing shot in off the post. The third goal for Caragh followed soon after and it was a belter from Noah. Ross found space out on the wing and he launched a cross into the Kilcullen area that landed perfectly for Noah to smash a volley to the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Kilcullen then got themselves back in the game with a goal of their own. Conor McCall made a smashing save from a close range shot that rebounded back out to the Kilcullen striker who made no mistake at the second time of asking.

Caragh responded almost straight away with Mikey getting his second of the day to leave it 4-1 at the half time break.

The second half continued in the same manner with Caragh in charge. Caolan took over in goals, while Conor McCall moved into defence. Ross then further extended Caragh’s lead when he found the corner of the Kilcullen net when under pressure from a tight angle. Kilcullen got their second when again a shot was saved initially and the rebound was followed up to the net.

Daniel then got his second of the day when he cleverly deflected a wayward shot from Mikey into the net to make it 6 for Caragh. Mikey then completed his hat-trick with another well finished shot to stretch the lead to 7-2. Kilcullen then scored their 3rd and final goal. Straight from the tip off though Ross took possession and stepped forward with the ball and found the Kilcullen net with a good shot from distance to complete the scoring for the day.

Noah Byrne covered every blade of grass and demonstrated great skills that Kilcullen couldn’t deal with. Mikey got a well deserved hat-trick. Daniel and Ross popped up with a pair a piece. Caolan was his ever dependable at the back. Conor Cassidy as ever went about his business without fuss and was a solid performer throughout. Conor McCall in goals in the first half while not having the busiest of days – showed that his distribution has really improved and consistently found his team mates from the back.

A very impressive performance all around from Caragh and a great way for the boys to kick off their long awaited first match of 2014.
