U9 Premier Return To Winning Ways In Eight Goal Thriller

Caragh Celtic 5
Bush Celtic 3

The Caragh boys all must have had their Weetabix this morning as they came flying out of the traps this morning and caught Bush Celtic cold with a four goal salvo in the first quarter. Noah Byrne opened the scoring when he got on the end of a Cian O’Reilly corner to tap home from close range. Evan Gilmartin then extended our lead when he got on the end of a cross from his brother Daire. Daire then got in on the scoring act when he finished another chance from close range. Evan then rounded off the scoring in this very one sided quarter when he got on the end of another corner to make it 4-0 to the home team.

The boys all thought at the first quarter break that there were loads of goals to be had, but this Bush team had other ideas and really took the game back to Caragh. The second quarter was a ding dong affair with some excellent attacking football coming from both teams, producing lots of chances at both ends but no more goals. Conor McCall did really well to keep a clean sheet for his half in goals when he tipped a rasping long range effort from Bush over his bar. The first half finished with the score still at 4-0 to the home team.

The second half saw Conor Cassidy take over between the sticks from Conor McCall. Bush really stepped it up a gear now and got a slighty lucky break to get them back in to the game when Conor was caught unsighted by a shot that came through a crowded area and snuck into the corner of the Caragh net to make it 4-1. Both teams were really testing each other out in every area of the pitch with some excellent last minute tackles preventing any further goals at either end. Caolan O’Toole was a rock for Caragh at the back in the first three quarters today.

The final quarter saw Bush really put it up to Caragh. Two early goals from them, both coming from unstoppable shots, really put the game in the balance. But today the Caragh boys really dug deep and came back at this strong Bush team and created a couple of late chances to close out the victory. The final goal of the game was a fine team goal to seal the win for Caragh. Cian O’Reilly won the ball in midfield and did well to avoid a couple of tackles before picking out Ross Ward on the left wing. Ross worked his way to the by line and crossed for Noah Byrne to finish the scoring for the day.

This was really a fantastic win for Caragh with some excellent team play in all quarters of the game against a very strong Bush Celtic team. Daire had a great game at the back in the first half showing that you can still make and score goals while a defender. Ross was a constant attacking threat with his pace down the left. Noah was really back to his best in the middle of the field opening and closing the scoring today. Conor Cassidy always played the right pass and was involved in some our best moves. Mikey Coffey was a constant thorn in the side of his Bush opponents.
