U9 Premier Lose To Clane

Caragh Celtic 1
Clane United 5

Caragh took to the field with confidence today following their great win in Edenderry last week and got off to a perfect start when we opened the scoring early in the first quarter. Ross broke down the left and crossed for Daire to finish to the Clane net from close range. That was about as good as it got today for Caragh though as the lead was very short lived. Almost straight from the tip off Clane responded with a goal of their own when their striker caught Cian by surprise to slide the ball into the Caragh net.

There were chances coming at both ends but Clane on the day were far more clinical in front of goals. Their impressive number 12 scored two more goals before the half time break to leave the score 3-1 at the interval – each time finishing cooly to the bottom corner of the Caragh net.

The second half started with Ross taking over between the sticks and Cian coming into play in midfield. Caragh were getting lots of half chances with Noah being really unlucky with a tremendous shot that rebounded off the Clane bar and Evan going really close with a header when he got on the end of Cian’s corner. But this Clane team proved really tough to break down as they defended in numbers when without the ball and attacked at speed when in possession. As the third quarter drew to a close Clane extended their lead further when number 12 completed his hat trick when he showed real class lifting the ball over Ross from close range.

The final quarter saw Caragh throw everything forward. Cian went close with some acrobatic overhead kicks, Ross had a shot well saved by the impressive Clane keeper, Noah and Evan also had efforts going close but today it just wasn’t to be for Caragh. In the dying seconds again of this quarter Clane broke through again and applied the finishing touches to make the score 5-1 as the ref blew the final whistle.

Hopefully we can really learn from playing teams like this, and maybe the next day those close misses will go the other side of the posts for us!
