U/10 Premier team too strong for Newbridge Yellow team

Newbridge Yellow 2 – 5 Caragh Celtic

Caragh Celtic U/10 premier team travelled to Newbridge Saturday to play their 3rd match of the season. The first quarter ended nil all and was a nervy affair with very little separating the two teams. Conditions were testing and it seemed to take both sides some time to adjust to the slippery surface. Both sides had chances to score and only excellent last ditch defence from the two teams but particularly from Caragh’s Adam Earley, kept It scoreless.

The second quarter began as the first ended, however following some good passing Caragh Celtics Niall Dolans shot on goal was parried by the Newbridge keeper into the path of Gavin Thompson who calmly slotted it home. Caragh’s lead only lasted a few minutes. Newbridge won a free kick just outside Caraghs box and the long range shot that followed seemed to pass through the Caragh team, in slow motion, into the goal. Caragh regrouped and by the end of quarter 2 they had a 2 – 1 lead after Gavin scored his second of the match.

Quarter 3 saw some good displays of passing from Caragh and their hard work was rewarded when they extended their lead with their third goal by hat trick hero Gavin Thompson. A fourth quickly followed with a fine headed goal from Niall Dolan coming from a well delivered corner ball from Dara Crowley. However, Newbridge came back with their second goal after some inaccurate passing by Caragh. The quarter ended 4 – 2 to Caragh.

The final quarter saw Caragh extend their lead following good pressure on the Newbridge defence resulting in an own goal for a 5 – 2 lead. Again some fantastic defending by man of the match Adam Earley kept Newbridge at bay.
