Caragh Celtic 4

Rathangan welcomed us for our first away fixture on a beautifully sunny Saturday. The Caragh  girls, in fine form following an excellent training session mid-week, were chomping at the bit to get started. 15 minutes in, team captain Sally Kielty led by example, scoring an absolutely stunning goal from 30 yards out. The opposition keeper barely getting her finger tips to the ball as it sailed into the top of the net. Our girls had the majority of the possession throughout the first half with Honor O’Donovan, Ellie Murphy and Sally Kielty providing a steadfast defence in front of Leah McGovern whose goal was rarely troubled. Orlagh Fitzpatrick had her shooting boots on today, scoring a further two well taken goals late in the first half to leave the opposition trailing 0 – 3 at half time.

The excellent midfield of Grace Kielty, Eimear Ward and Lauren Nolan dominated play and the opposition rarely found a way through. A physical enough game, saw Aoife Ryan bravely take a knock during an attacking move half way through the second half. Not content with 3 goals, our interchanging forward line of Leah Fleming, Sarah McGovern, Aoife Ryan, Anna O’Donovan and Orlagh Fitzpatrick were tenacious in their pursuit of more goals. Their persistance payed off as Anna O’Donovan scored another fine goal early in the final quarter, squeezing tha ball past the keeper into the bottom right and corner of the net. The score could have been higher as Grace Kielty had a chance late on and another goalmouth scramble was cleared by the home team in the dying minutes.

Overall an excellent team display and clearly some real potential in this fledgling team.
