Caragh U10s Off To A Flyer

Caragh Celtic 9

Clane United 4

Caragh kicked off the U10 premier season with a tough home fixture against a Clane United team that had beaten us in all previous meetings. The lads were really up for the challenge today and attacked Clane from the off determined to put an end that losing record.

The Clane goal survived a few early scares before the deadlock was finally broken with an excellent individual goal from Cian.  Cian gathered the ball out on the right wing, then set off towards goal on a mazy dribble, leaving all in his wake before firing a low shot to the back of the Clane net.  While at the other end Caolan and Conor McCall were in fine form handling everything that came their way with comfort.

The second quarter was more of the same with Caragh posing most of the attacking threat. The second for Caragh came when Daire picked out Ross out on the left with a pass from midfield and Ross made no mistake from just inside the Clane area. Ross returned the assist to Daire a couple of minutes later when he found his team mate with a cross from the left and Daire finished with a lovely glancing header to make it 3-0.

The lads were in no humour to ease off at this stage and Noah nearly made it 4 when curled a beautiful free kick towards the top corner but the Clane keeper made a fine save and tipped it away for a corner.  The 4th wasn’t long in coming though when Daniel got to a through ball just ahead of the Clane keeper, both players ended up on the ground but the ball rolled through to Evan who had the simplest of tasks to tap it home to leave it 4-0 at half time.

The managers words from Clane at half time seemed to work for them though as they came out a different team determined to fight their way back in to this game.  Conor Cassidy in the Caragh goals had a couple of early warning shots before he was beaten twice in quick succession by Andrew from Clane to make it 4-2. But today was Caragh’s day and anytime Clane threatened to come back we responded with another goal.  The 3rd quarter was the Andy & Mikey show with 3 goals from Clane’s Andy while Mikey fired back with 2 for Caragh to leave it 6-3 going in to the final quarter.

Caragh came out in the final quarter determined to make sure of the win.  Mikey popped up with another 2 goals while Ross added another to make it 9.  Andrew for Clane got his fourth of the day to cap off a fine individual performance leaving the score 9-4 at the final whistle.

An excellent start to the season for the Caragh lads with strong performances all over the pitch. Noah and Daire were excellent in the middle of midfield, while Ross and Cian were excellent down both wings.  The goals look like they could come from any of our players.  The team is developing really, really well and looking very strong going in to this season.  Keep up all the practice and good work in training lads and you’ll only get better!!
